NICK:    I’m always stressing about money. It’s like everybody, same story – you want to provide for your family.

NICK:        I still don’t see myself as a businessman. You know, I like to get my hands dirty, so I’m always kind of in the mix there.

JUSTINA:    It makes me laugh when he says. “I’m not a businessman, what do I know?” He’s got a successful business that he’s been running for almost 20 years now.

NICK:        But in the beginning it was tough.

JUSTINA:    When he was struggling, I would have the stable paycheck.

NICK:        If she wasn’t there, I don’t know where I’d be right now. Or even the family.

NICK:    Being a business owner, money was always tight. I never felt comfortable. For me it's just the worry of not having. Where I can’t put food on the table or provide because there might be a hiccup down the road that you don’t see.

JUSTINA:        We needed someone that was focused on us, and focused on our priorities. We actually talked to our TD Commercial Representative. She guided us to our TD Wealth Advisor, Natasha. She told us upfront "We’re going to have a lot of stuff to work through together but here’s the plan. Here’s your vacation account, here’s the kids education account."

NICK:    Natasha finally put it into perspective.

JUSTINA:        She always aligned with our goals and keeping us on track.

NICK:   That’s when I started to feel comfortable. I felt like ok maybe I could take a day off, take a half day off. You know, enjoy these moments because, you know, it’s just not all about work. As I get older I take a step back and see how fortunate I am. It’s about the comfort of knowing you’re okay, and your kids will be okay.

POLLY:  When I look back in my life, doesn't matter what kind of situation I was in, I don’t give up.

I came from India with a Master’s Degree in 1987. But the reality was very different than my dreams. I got a job in the factory. There was no other choice. I had done like two jobs even, so I was working, like, 7 days a week.

But then I was determined, okay you know, this is not the place where I would stay. I need to go up.

Building a successful business with my husband was very tough. We worked hard together, you know.

But in 2005 my husband passed away. All my dreams, they were shattered. And those were the days I think I had no idea what to do.

I had two daughters, still the mortgage on the house. And now I was the single earner for the family. So security was a big thing for me. How to keep my money safe.

When I was introduced to Matt at TD Wealth, I felt he was knowledgeable.

The way Matt invested my funds – It made sense to me. Every single word that he said, it made sense to me.

He’s very open and honest when he gives you advice. If it’s not good for you, he tells you that too,

It’s a hard earned money. It should be looked after, where you have trust. Matt was the right fit for my family and for myself.

I want to be a role model for my daughters. They are my strength in every single moment.

It doesn’t matter what the situation is, you just move forward.

LEE-ANN:    We’ve had a few detours in our life. We've really come to realize that the things that seem completely out of reach are not.

STEVE:        Lee-ann and I were 13 years old when we first met. Lee-ann was my first girlfriend I was her first boyfriend.

LEE-ANN:    I just remember Steve had very long hair. It was longer than mine.

STEVE:        And then my father decided we're going to move out to Alberta.

LEE-ANN:    35 years later we reconnected.

STEVE:        That was quite exciting when we actually met again. It came out of the blue -- the sparks were electric.

LEE-ANN:    It really is very cool marrying your best friend. And now it's coming time to retire.

STEVE:        We realized that we didn't have a true path to retirement, so we really needed some help with that. When we went to TD wealth, we met up with Jonathan.

LEE-ANN:    He really did open our eyes. He educated us. He was answering questions we didn't know we needed to ask.

STEVE:        He was exploring all the different options to get us to retire much earlier than we had expected. I had the assumption that it was going to be a decade before I could retire. And it’s just amazing that the timeline has changed to the summer. It's like newfound time. I figure we've gained a decade of youth…

[LEE-ANN:   Easy…]

STEVE:        …and we will love to travel we love to go see our families. And we love detours.

LEE-ANN:    Yeah… [Laughs]

TIM:  I needed to make sure that she wouldn’t be forgotten, and to give something back.

Patty taught at the University Alberta for 27 years as a clinical instructor.

Patty loved her students.

She would work evenings and weekends to make sure that there's nobody left out and everybody got a fair chance.

Then my wife contracted ovarian cancer, and when she passed away that was a game changer.

I didn't realize at the time how well my wife was loved by her students and colleagues.

So I reached out to Corina at TD wealth and we set a plan together, and we came up with private giving, and we set something up to get the scholarship in the name of my wife.

We've been very fortunate with TD Wealth to understand the complexities of estate planning and look at possibilities to do amazing things.

For me, that's giving something back to students, so there's a little bit of Patty in all of them.
